Can you even get a job with 2″ stretched ears?
I’m finishing up graduate school for my MBA, and I have 2″ ears. Really been having second thoughts about them… considering getting them surgically repaired because it might impede on actually having a career.
Obviously I wouldn’t wear the jewelry to an interview… but would I still be looked down upon with sagging earlobes?
Yeah, I figured that much. My career is more important to me.
Yes. I have nearly 1 3/4 inch ears, and I have an advanced degree in engineering, and a successful career. And I’ve gone to job interview with my ears (and 200+ hours of tattoos) and have had several job offers. It really depends on your approach.
It is more difficult, yes, but I’ve found in my life (I’ve had stretched ears for over 10 years now) that they help me figure out who are the narrow-minded people I would rather keep out of my life.
Here’s what I suggest: get some fairly conservative wooden plugs in a color that is close to your skin tone. Don’t get those “hider” plugs that are supposed to match your skin tone — those are ugly and obvious. And DON’T go with no jewelry. That just looks bad, and is obvious that you’re somehow ashamed of them.
If you have the attitude that you are ashamed of your ears, you will never get a job. If they are brought up, just be honest and forthright about them. If they want you, and the ears are truly the only issue, and it is a job that you really want, at that point you can consider reversing them. It sounds to me that you like them very much and they are a part of you, so be proud of yourself, and that will show. You know and I know that stretched ears won’t affect your work peformance: be sure that they know as well.
